An open letter to Joseph Kosinki: please don't allow Twilight Zone and Logan's Run to suffer like Tron: Legacy and Oblivion.

Dear Mr Kosinki,

I've just finished watching Oblivion.

The first thing to say is that I enjoyed it, even if it was quite muddled in places. And that is what it is all about really isn't it, the enjoyment?

I would much rather Directors strive for greatness and fail than churn out mediocre films by the dozen.  That said, I feel that the film is ambitious but doesn't quite deliver on the big vision that it is targeting.

And this is starting to become a recurring theme. Unfortunately, it also feels like many of the flaws present in Oblivion were the same as those found in Tron Legacy.  Fabulously-developed settings and great visuals papered over the cracks, although maybe you should be cut some slack as it was your debut.

With Twilight Zone (and possibly Logan's Run) slated for a remake with you at the helm,  I can only hope that some of the holes present in both Oblivion and Tron Legacy are tightened up in the retelling of this classic tale.

Given that you have big visions for your pictures, once the execution is right you will be on your way to greatness. One of these days you will succeed in tying the worlds you bring to life with deeper, more developed characters. I think you can do it and I look forward to being proved right!

In anticipation,
