I recently watched Dredd 3D and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised!
I had expected a typical rubbish action movie that would allow me to waste away a couple of hours, possibly copying the "so bad its good" tack of the original Judge Dredd in the process. Dredd 3D was by far and away better in my opinion and much more in keeping with how Dredd should be - for example not showing Dredd's face this time and thus staying much closer to the comic. This is how Dredd should be!
Many of my favourite films and TV shows involve dystopian worlds, whether that be a worrying vision of Earth's future or a fictional world gone wrong. So, Dredd's dystopian vision of our future coupled with plenty of action was a real treat. Add some beautiful shots that really take advantage of 3D technology into the mix and you have a winning film!
This movie is a also a great example of how 3D should be used in film. It makes sense here, unlike many other films where it just seems like a cheap Hollywood marketing ploy. If the studios can keep it like this with future films then I can avoid rolling my eyes every time I see a 3D label on a movie or DVD!
